First Aider Refresher Training (DGUV – German Social Accident Insurance – Regulation 1)

First aiders generally need refresher training every 2 years (DGUV Regulation 1, Section 26(3), German law). Minimum number: 1 first aider for 2 to 20 people present, above that 5% in administrative and retail businesses or 10% in other businesses (Section 26(1)). Without refresher training they no longer count as first aiders.

Idea to get started

Maintain a list of all first aiders with expiration dates (Excel/HR tool). Book training via the Red Cross, Malteser, or ASB (8 teaching units). Scan certificates and file them in the personnel record. Budget: approx. €80-120/person.

Did you know?

In Germany, the statutory accident insurers pay the course fees for training and refreshing workplace first aiders (German law). The course lasts nine teaching units and is due at least every two years.
