World First Aid Day
Awareness day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (second Saturday in September). In Germany, first aid at work is mandatory: with 2 to 20 people present, at least one trained first aider; above that, 5% in offices and retail or 10% in other workplaces. Refresher training is usually due every two years (German law: DGUV – German Social Accident Insurance – Regulation 1, Section 26).
Idea to get started
Check your number of first aiders against the requirement. Book due refresher courses; in Germany the statutory accident insurer usually covers the course fees. Check first aid kits for completeness and expiry dates. Tell everyone where the defibrillator is. Ask for volunteers for the next training.
